Usage Notes & What It Means in Practice

  • Because it supplies 50 V on all 4 pairs (4‑pair powering) at up to 60 W, this is considered a passive / Ubiquiti proprietary or semi‑standard method (not standard 802.3af/at which is lower voltage and lower wattage). Some newer devices that expect PoE++ or higher voltages will work fine. However, you must ensure the device you connect is compatible or tolerant of passive 50 V. Using it on devices expecting 48 V‑active PoE can risk damage in some cases.

  • Cable quality & distance matter: The longer the run, and the poorer the cable, the more voltage drop you will have, which may reduce usable power at the far end.

  • If you are using Ubiquiti TOUGHCable or properly grounded cable/installer accessories, the surge protection / grounding features improve protection vs lightning / ESD events.
